AGM 2023

ShutterPups held its second Annual General Meeting, which including a planning workshop. Members were asked to think about the next 12 months, across a set of categories. The session yielded lots of ideas and suggestions. We are looking at a great year ahead, implementing many of these – keep a look out for details via this website and our socials media.
Welcome to the new committee.

Swan View Railway Tunnel

The Swan View Railway Tunnel was designed by CY O’Connor in 1894, completed in 1895, and used until 1945 when a bypass was constructed. The walk trail gives some magnificent views back to the Perth coastal plain. For the energetic you can walk all the way to Parkerville Tavern. On the way you will pass by National Park and Hovea Falls that are both stunning when there is water running. Between the two falls is a remnant railway bridge that at the right time of year is great for astrophotography.

Sculpture by the Sea

Our annual pilgrimage to “Sculpture by the Sea” occurred in the twilight of a cool March the evening. Some of us wearing shoes and others wiggling toes in the sand, we meandered our way around the magnificent sculptures on and around Cottelsoe Beach. Despite an earlier sprinkling of rain, the weather gods bestowed us with a long and gentle orange sunset.

Dragon Boats – Fremantle

The Western Australian Dragon Boat Festival was once again a spectacular celebration of dragon boat racing and ancient Chinese culture. For Shutterpups it was an event that provided an opportunity to photograph the action of aquatic sports, street activities, and colourful cultural displays. All with the backdrop of the historical Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour.

PrideFest Parade 2022

The PrideFest 2022 parade returned to the streets of Northbridge with a blast of energy and colour. Such a parade was an awesome opportunity get great images of the floats, the marchers, and the street audience – with our theme of “on looking and looking out”.

PrideFest Fairday 2022

The Pride WA “Shine” PrideFest was held in November 2022 and the beloved Fairday returned to the beautiful Hyde Park. The Shutterpups gathered under the canopy of the trees, amongst the myriad of stalls and in the throng of the crowd – to observe and capture scenes of Excitement & Exhaustion.

One – the Exhibition

Excitement abound as the first ever photo exhibition by the Shutterpups Photography club got under way. Drinks and food were enjoyed while perusing the photos, provoking discussions, and surfacing memories.

A good crowd of people gathered for the opening night as speeches were made by our President and the Mayor of the City of Vincent.  Thanks went out to the library staff for their support in getting this exhibition of the ground, as well as all the Shutterpups involved.

The exhibition, which is viewable throughout Pride month November, is located at the City of Vincent Library foyer.

Astro Photography

As the sun set tripods came out in preparation of the nights shooting of the stars. Luke not only showed us how to take photos of stars, galaxies, and other heavenly bodies, he also showed us he’s lightsabre skills.  Thank you, Luke, for taking a break from fighting the dark side to part with your knowledge.

Castledare

Despite the weather forecast, the sun was out for the Shutterpups visit to Castledare Miniature Railway.

Soon after arrival we were treated to a guided tour of the loco sheds. One has to appreciate the engineering, skill, and love that goes into building and maintaining the engines, railcars, and tracks.

The Castledare Miniature Railway of Western Australia (Inc) came into being in early 1963 with the building of an experimental section of straight track approximately 30 metres. Castledare Boys Home, on the banks of the Canning River was chose as the location to build a railway 7¼” gauge railway.

The track runs for approximately 5kms from the Castledare Home grounds, across a creek, out through the wetlands to Wilson Park near Kent Street weir on the Canning River, and returns along the river banks to the Castledare grounds.

With picnic areas and train rides – this is an awsome place for a family outing, or just to indulge your inner child.
