Avon Descent

One of Perth’s most iconic races is the Avon Descent, running for two days along a stretch of 124 km of the Avon and Swan Rivers.  This year, following some heavy rainfalls, the water was high and the rivers were angry.

Shutterpups had two options for the weekend, with fast flowing and white water in and near Toodyay on day one and the excitement at the finish line and festival in Bayswater on day two.  Unfortunately, when a powerboat flipped before us at the finish line, we were watching the race with our eyes instead of our lenses!  The contestants were ok, with one asking if we managed to capture his ‘stunt’.

Hockey Photoshoot

With one of our Shutterpups doubling as the goalie for one of the Joondalup Lakers men’s hockey teams, we had the opportunity to take our shutters to the blue turf at HBF Arena for some fast action sports photography. 

When the heavens opened, we took shelter from the rain.  However, the game played on and so between showers we had the water on the turf adding an interesting dynamic to the action on-field.

Monochrome City Night Walk

This month’s challenge was to go monochrome. If our members camera permitted, it was requested to set the camera or phone camera viewfinder to display only monochrome. This was described as an exciting way to see the scene in front of us in a whole new way. If their cameras didn’t allow, then converting in post-production is also a fun way to adjust the photos. 

This was an easy walk through the city on what turned out to be a wonderful night amongst what was otherwise the wettest month of July for decades. The walk started outside the City of Perth Library for an exploration of Cathedral Square. From there we headed over to Wolfe and Prince Lanes for some dark alley artwork and finished up with a wander around Yagan Square. A social catchup at the Shoe rounded out the night before we all headed home. The results from the group were fantastic.
