Upcoming Events and Workshops

South Perth StrEATS

Date: Friday 3rd April 2026
Meetup from 5:00 PM
Location: Sir James Mitchell Park, Coode St, South Perth
Finishing at 8:30 PM
This street photography outing to South Perth StrEATS offers Shutterpups members a fantastic opportunity to capture the vibrant energy of Perth’s food scene against one of the city’s most iconic backdrops.
What to expect
This outing is a “target-rich” environment for street and lifestyle photography:
– Candid Human Interest: Capture the joy of communal dining—families on picnic rugs, friends sharing diverse cuisines, and the “organized chaos” of the food truck queues.
– Environmental Portraits: The food truck vendors themselves are often great subjects, framed by their colorful trucks and the steam/smoke of live cooking.
– The Golden Hour: As the sun sets, the light hitting the Swan River and the Perth CBD skyline provides a stunning glow. It’s the perfect time to experiment with silhouettes and long shadows across the parkland.
– Action & Motion: Focus on the “strEAT” food preparation—the flip of a burger, the pour of a drink, or children playing in the open spaces of Sir James Mitchell Park.
– Urban Landscape: After 6:30 PM, the “blue hour” sets in. Use a tripod to capture the neon lights of the food trucks juxtaposed against the glittering skyline of the city across the water.
Where to meet
Meet near the Coode Street Flagpole at 5:00 PM to sync up before wandering the stalls. After the light fades, we can regroup to share our favorite captures over a bite from one of the trucks.
Parking
Parking is available at the park for a $2 donation, which supports local community groups.
Suggested gear
– Prime Lenses: A 35mm or 50mm (full-frame equivalent) is ideal for candid street shots and low-light performance.
– Wide Angle: To capture the scale of the foreshore and the city skyline.
– Comfortable Shoes: You’ll be moving between the trucks and the riverbank to find the best angles.
– Tripod: For longer exposures in low light.
Event updates will be provided through Facebook Messenger to those who flag “going” on Facebook

Shutterpups stages monthly themed shoots around the Perth metro and outer metro regions. At least once a year we also plan a (long) weekend event further afield. The main aims of our events is to grow your skills by socialising and interact with other photographers. No matter your experience or gear, there is always something new to learn. There are many different types of events, so there is sure to be one that suits your interest: fast-paced sports; gentle landscapes; macros; or seeing the world in monochrome – we try to make the events as varied as possible.
