Fremantle Monochrome Walk

Fremantle was the host for Shutterpups members to practice monochrome photography on a walk beginning at Bathers Beach, the late rays of Autumn sunshine playing on the waves and sand.
The Roundhouse Tunnel provided dramatic shadows, leading lines, and framing of a bygone world. Emerging at the Roundhouse as the sun set, the focus was on the textures of limestone rather than the orange glow in the western sky.
Walking along High Street provided an abundance of historical facades that shifted from grand to gothic as the twilight faded.
To conclude the evening, the group squeezed into Darling Darling to unwind in the unique maritime charm of the bar, and grab another photo.

Sculpture at Bathers

As the sun dipped toward the horizon, casting golden hues over Fremantle, Shutterpups members gathered for an inspiring photography outing at Sculpture at Bathers. The group explored the striking outdoor exhibition, capturing the interplay of light and shadow on the diverse sculptures created by Western Australian artists.
As twilight set in, we took a table at a nearby fish & chip cafe for some well-earned sustenance, and to share some of our favourite shots.

Northbridge Nightlife

Northbridge’s Chinatown was the host for Shutterpups members to enjoy an evening of photography, food, and exploration. The night began with a delicious dinner at a bustling eatery, where the group enjoyed authentic Asian cuisine and shared creative ideas for the shoot ahead.
Afterwards, they wove through nearby alleyways, discovering vibrant street art, neon-lit corners, and intriguing architectural details.
The outing concluded at Astral Weeks, a tucked-away listening bar known for its warm ambiance and curated vinyl selections. Over some carefully crafted drinks, members unwound, discussed their favorite shots, and soaked in the rich sounds of the venue’s high-fidelity audio system.

Dragon Boats

On a scorching day at Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour, Shutterpups members gathered for a dynamic outing at the Western Australian Dragon Boat Festival. The air was filled with the rhythmic beating of drums and the cheers of spectators as dragon boats sliced through the water in a thrilling display of speed and teamwork. Photographers at the event focused on capturing the intensity of the races, the vibrant cultural performances, and the intricate details of the ornately decorated boats.

Xmas Lights Trail

After a festive dinner filled with laughter and camaraderie, Shutterpups members embarked on their annual Christmas lights photography walk. Armed with cameras and a keen eye for detail, they explored Perth’s dazzling Xmas trail, capturing the glow of twinkling decorations and illuminated streets. The outing is not just about photography—it’s a celebration of community, creativity, and the joy of the season.

Faction Carnival

For the annual Team Perth Faction Carnival, members of Shutterpups were invited to capture the energy of the event—joyful expressions, dynamic performances, and candid moments of connection.

York Medieval Fayre

Shutterpups members were invited by the organisers of the York Medieval Fayre as official photographers for the event. This annual event brings together living history groups, old-world crafts, themed markets, kids activities, and great food.

Community Sports Portraits

We are very fortunate in Perth to have so many LGBTQIA+ sports groups that celebrate love, pride, diversity, and inclusivity. Our community sports portrait session was more than just taking dynamic photographs – it was also about celebrating the vibrancy, strength, and resilience of the athlete.
Our goal was to capture and celebrate the identity of an athlete, expressed in the context of their chosen community sport.
Our thanks to Perth Rams RUFC and Emerald City Kickball Perth

AGM 2024 and Macro Workshop

Prior to our third Annual General Meeting for Shutterpups, Kedy Kristal of GLBTI Rights in Ageing (GRAI) provided an update on the “Our Voices” project for which our members provided their photography skills. Read more about the outcomes of this project here.
After the formalities of the AGM we indulged in some afternoon tea and some macro-photography – with 3 light boxes, a variety of close-up lenses, and some cute ducks.
Congratulations to Chris & Tony for winning the challenge – they each received a printing voucher from Bluefish Photography.

Welcome to the 2024 committee: Peter King, Duncan Surin, Gregory Helleren, and Carmal Foster

Moondyne Festival 2024

At the Toodyay Moondyne Festival we escaped the ‘norm’ to shoot in the footsteps of WA’s legendary bushranger Moondyne Joe. We saw Floozies, swaggies, and the Town Crier in action. The coppers were always on the prowl trying to catch the scoundrel Moondyne Joe as he continued to evade the long arm of the law.
The challenge for this outing was to capture a selfie with the slippery Moondyne Joe [congratulations Carmal].
